Shinshu University has been ranked 38th in the world and 1st in Japan for the third consecutive year in the "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2020," a ranking of the world's most environmentally friendly universities.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is a ranking of universities around the world that evaluates sustainable campus environmental practices, and the survey items on campus greening efforts and environmentally friendly university policies are based on the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals adopted at the 2015 UN Summit). The survey items on campus greening efforts and environmentally friendly university policies correspond to nine of the 17 goals of the SDGs.

This year's survey was conducted under the theme of "Universities Responsibility for Sustainable Development Goals and World's Complex challenges. This year, 912 universities from 84 countries (132 more than last year) participated in the conference. Shinshu University received particularly high marks in the areas of "Environmental Education and Research," "Waste Management and Recycling," "Energy and Climate Change," and "Mobility".

This is the third year in a row that we have been ranked number one in Japan, and we believe that this is the result of our efforts in the "Green" category, which is one of the three "G's" in our basic policy for university management. We will continue to make further efforts to send off graduates into the world with an environmental mindset.
