Shinshu University Concludes MoU with INTI International University & Colleges, Malaysia

The MoU signing ceremony between Shinshu University and INTI, and between TUT and INTI

On February 12, 2026, Shinshu University concluded a university-wide Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic exchange with INTI International University & Colleges (INTI), Malaysia. Through this agreement, the two institutions will promote student and faculty exchange as well as joint research, further advancing the internationalization of education and research activities.

■ MoU Signing Ceremony: A Grand Event Attended by Penang State Officials

The MoU signing ceremony was held in the state of Penang, Malaysia. The event was attended by President Soichiro Nakamura of Shinshu University; Mr. Chong Kok Wai, Chief Executive Officer of INTI; Mr. Shinya Machida, Consulate-General of Japan in Penang; Mr. Jagdeep Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang; Mr. Yeoh Soon Hin of the Penang State Government; and Ms. Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang, along with many distinguished guests and stakeholders.

The MoU signing between Shinshu University and INTI was held concurrently with a similar agreement between INTI and Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT), which already maintains a partnership with Shinshu University. Through collaboration among the three universities, synergistic effects in the internationalization of education and research are expected.

■ Sharing a Global Vision for Internationalization through “J-PEAKS”

At the lecture session following the ceremony, Vice President Mitsuteru Inoue delivered a presentation highlighting Shinshu University’s participation in the “Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities as Regional Core and Distinctive Institutions (J-PEAKS).” He outlined the University’s vision for strengthening research capabilities and expanding its international presence.

In addition to President Nakamura, representatives from Shinshu University included Distinguished Professor Katsuya Teshima, Director of the Institute for Aqua Regeneration (ARG), among others. Discussions also explored potential collaboration in the field of Aqua Regeneration (ARG), one of the University’s core strengths, focusing on global environmental restoration centered on water—such as water recycling systems and the generation and utilization of water-derived green hydrogen energy.

■ Building Networks with Students and Alumni

Prior to the signing ceremony, related events were held locally on February 11.

  • Information Session for INTI Students: “Study Options in Japan”
    Vice President Inoue introduced the appeal of Japanese higher education and the outstanding educational and research environment at Shinshu University. Many participating INTI students expressed strong interest in studying in Japan.
  • Joint Alumni Gathering of Shinshu University and Toyohashi University of Technology
    With the attendance of Consulate-General Machida, alumni and affiliates of both universities gathered together. The event provided a valuable opportunity to reaffirm bonds with graduates active overseas and to strengthen international networks for the future.
