A Signing Ceremony Held for the Academic Exchange with the University of Eastern Finland

On April 15, 2026, Shinshu University signed a university-wide Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic exchange with the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Finland.
The University of Eastern Finland is a leading national university in eastern Finland. It possesses strong research capabilities and is internationally renowned, particularly in the fields of environmental science, forestry, health sciences, and materials science. Given the strong alignment with Shinshu University’s strengths, the two universities have engaged in extensive collaboration in both education and research, leading to the signing of this MoU.
Prior to the signing ceremony, UEF’s Professor Jussi Pihjalamäki, Vice Rector of Research and Innovation, and Professor Markku Hauta-Kasari, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology visited the Aqua Regeneration Central Hub (ARCH) on Matsumoto campus to tour the cutting-edge technologies related to water and green energy. At the signing ceremony, the UEF delegation and SU representatives reaffirmed their compatibility in research and education and discussed both universities’ interdisciplinary research strengths on sustainability related matters.
The MoU forms the basis for strengthening the strategic partnership between UEF and SU through joint research projects and education programs.
