Shinshu University Visits National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan

From February 1 to 2, 2026, a delegation from Shinshu University led by President Soichiro Nakamura visited the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
Since concluding a university-level agreement in January 2024 as member institutions of the Taiwan–Japan Alliance of Local Revitalization and Social Practice (TJ Alliance), NKUST and Shinshu University have promoted collaboration primarily in the field of University Social Responsibility (USR) in Taiwan, including faculty and student exchanges.
The purpose of this visit was to attend the inauguration ceremony of NKUST’s new president as an overseas partner institution and, together with a delegation from Kochi University—the secretariat institution of Japanese members in the TJ Alliance—to meet with the President Wu Chung-Hsin to introduce the international collaborative activities in the USR field among the three universities and to reaffirm the further plans of commitment to promoting for a sustainable society through human resource development with continued regular exchanges.
A joint meeting held on February 2 was attended by President Wu of NKUST, President Ukeda of Kochi University, President Nakamura of Shinshu University, and other representatives. NKUST first presented the achievements to date and future exchange plans of its internationally collaborative regional revitalization project, “Good Neighbor Fisheries” (Lin Jia Hao Yu). This was followed by presentations from Kochi University and Shinshu University on the outcomes of regional collaboration initiatives conducted in Japan in partnership with NKUST, as well as their future plans for exchange.
President Wu and the two Japanese university presidents confirmed the achievements of their collaboration to date and shared their expectations for continuing cooperation in this field. They reaffirmed to continue their commitment to fostering students to be able to take action and propose solutions for building sustainable societies in collaboration with community partners, and approved the future plans.
In addition, President Nakamura introduced Shinshu University’s research initiatives in the field of Aqua Regeneration, which drew strong interest from President Wu. The two sides agreed to explore the development of research collaboration in this area.
This visit not only strengthened cooperation in human resource development contributing to regional revitalization, but also provided an opportunity to confirm the potential for collaboration in research. Further deepening and development of the partnership between NKUST and the Japanese universities is anticipated.
