On April 17, 2026, Shinshu University was honored to welcome a five-member delegation from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Farhan Bin Mohd Sadullah.

Since the establishment of a university-wide academic exchange agreement in 2010, the two institutions have cultivated a robust partnership. This relationship has been significantly strengthened by the efforts of Professor Norhisam Misron, an alumnus of Shinshu University’s doctoral program, who has served as a cornerstone for ongoing joint research and student exchange initiatives.

Academic Engagement at the Nagano-Engineering Campus

The visit commenced at the Nagano-Engineering Campus, where the delegation met with Professor Mizue Kayama, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. A highlight of this session was a special lecture delivered by Vice-Chancellor Ahmad Farhan, providing students and faculty with high-level insights into contemporary academic challenges.

Strategic Dialogue at the Matsumoto Campus

The delegation subsequently transitioned to the Matsumoto Campus for a meeting with Shinshu University’s leadership, including President Soichiro Nakamura and Dr. Hironori Yasuda, Executive Director for Global Education.

The participants reflected on the historical milestones of their partnership. To highlight our current collaborative efforts, Associate Professor Koichi Sakakibara of the Faculty of Science, together with Mayu Ogiya, a master’s student, presented their latest collaborative research findings.

At the end of the meeting, President Nakamura officially conferred the title of Collaborative Professor upon UPM’s Professor Norhisam Misron and expressed profound expectations for Professor Misron to continue serving as a vital bridge between the two universities.

This visit served as a reaffirmation of a partnership spanning over 15 years. Shinshu University remains committed to the further expansion of both research frontiers and student mobility with Universiti Putra Malaysia, fostering a future of shared intellectual growth.
