On 20 June 2022, Professor Andrew Pask and Research Administrator Mika Shimoda paid a courtesy visit to President Nakamura on behalf of the University of Melbourne. The School of Biosciences in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne, and the Faculty of Agriculture at Shinshu University signed a faculty-level agreement in February 2022, which led to an exchange of opinions about the possibilities of research collaboration and student exchange with other faculties.

The University of Melbourne is the top university in Australia, with the Faculty of Science being one of the largest with its 10,000 students (52,000 overall) and composed of six Schools. The research fields are diverse and include not only bioscience and agriculture, but are also related to for example materials science, clean water technology, renewable energy resources and materials, environmental conservation and forest management, geology, satellite development, and data science.

As both organizations have various similarities in cutting-edge research fields, they have agreed to expand their cooperation agreement and aim to exchange research-based graduate students in the future.

Professor Andrew Pask, who is also invited as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research, Shinshu University, was present throughout the meeting, which took place in a convivial atmosphere.
