Ceremony to celebrate Shinshu University's collaboration with Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova (USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu")

On 8 April 2022, Shinshu University and USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu” held an online ceremony to celebrate the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding which provides an official framework for the long-standing cooperation in the field of neurosurgery between the two universities.
Shinshu University entered this Memorandum with USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu” on 31 March 2021, but the origins of the partnership date back more than 15 years, to when the two institutions’ respective neurosurgical departments first began working together.
Thanks to informative presentations by the originators of this Japanese-Moldovan collaboration, Professor emeritus Kazuhiro HONGO and Professor Grigore ZAPUHLIH, the participants not only learned much about the history of this fruitful partnership, but also saw something of the great enthusiasm and mutual warmth of feeling that has sustained the relationship over the years.
As they listened to the speeches given by the distinguished guests* and by the key figures on both sides, the younger generation gained a better understanding of the origins and benefits of this remarkable collaboration. A second-year medical student at USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu” spoke about the opportunities for young researchers.
The event was organized by Professor Naoki TANAKA at the SU School of Medicine and moderated by Assistant Professor Amanda SCHUETZE from the SU Center for Global Education and Collaboration.
