Their paper "Effects of a solid electrolyte coating on the discharge kinetics of a LiCoO2 electrode: mechanism and potential applications" revealed the impacts of an ultra-thin solid electrolyte coating on the kinetical parameters in Li-ion intercalation reactions during ultra-fast discharging process in the Li-ion batteries. Their systematic electrochemical analysis suggested that the increase of local concentration of Li+ at the surface of LiCoO2 particles by the coating significantly changed the kinetics associated with polarization mitigation due to Li+ exchange reaction (Li+ adsorption and diffusion processes) at the electrode/electrolyte interface. The attached figure shows a schematic illustration of the newly proposing ion exchange reaction mechanism, driven by an ultra-thin solid electrolyte coating. This research was financially supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research and NEDO Lead Research Program.
