The paper of Professor Hiroyuki Suga and Assistant Professor Yasunori Toda of Faculty of Engineering, Department of Materials Chemistry, was featured on the inside back cover of the journal of Chemical Communications - Royal Society of Chemistry (impact factor 6.29).

This paper summarizes the research results on the chiral Lewis acid-catalyzed asymmetric cycloaddition reaction of cyclic azomethine ylides and electron-deficient alkenes. Using this method, it is possible to carry out the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of tropane skeleton-abundantly present in biologically active natural products such as cocaine.

The graphic of the back cover combines the purpose of the work and the image of Nagano with a ski jumping platform, the mountains of the Japan Northern Alps, and Zenko-ji temple. This research is supported by a scientific research grant JSPS Kakenhi.
