Shinshu University was honored to host Prof. Alojzy Nowak, Rector of the University of Warsaw, for a two-day visit on September 16 and 17, 2026, accompanied by exchange student Katarzyna Lorens.
Founded in 1816, the University of Warsaw is Poland’s flagship public research university, renowned globally for its academic excellence and ranked 2nd in the QS World University Rankings Eastern Europe.
Since establishing an academic exchange agreement in 2011, the two universities have built a strong partnership through active student exchanges.
On the first day of the visit (Sept. 16), Rector Novak paid a courtesy call on President Nakamura on the Matsumoto Campus. President Soichiro Nakamura, alongside Executive Director for Global Education Hironori Yasuda, Dean Tadashi Kanai (Faculty of Arts), Prof. Naoki Tanaka (School of Medicine), and Associate Prof. Yuji Sengoku (Center for Global Education and Collaboration), extended a warm welcome to Rector Nowak. Following opening remarks from both President Nakamura and President Novak, the attendees introduced themselves and engaged in an active exchange of views. During the meeting, President Novak expressed high expectations for expanding future collaboration beyond the currently active exchanges with the Faculty of Arts to broader fields, including medicine and sustainable development.
The meeting concluded with a presentation of commemorative gifts and a photo session. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for representatives from both institutions to engage in direct dialogue and deepen their mutual understanding.
On September 17, Rector Nowak visited Shinshu University Hospital, where he toured the laboratory and engaged in fruitful discussions with Prof. Naoki Tanaka and Prof. Sachie Hiratsuka of the School of Medicine.
Through this visit, both universities reaffirmed their strong partnership spanning 15 years. Shinshu University aims to leverage this occasion to foster further ongoing exchanges and enhance its international education and research networks.
