On 24 November 2025, President Soichiro Nakamura and Vice President Yasuto Hayashi of Shinshu University visited National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taipei, Taiwan. Located in a scenic, nature-rich area on the outskirts of Taipei, NCCU is a comprehensive university with 12 faculties and is highly regarded, particularly in the fields of humanities and social sciences. This visit was made possible through NCCU’s membership in the Japan-Taiwan University Alliance for Regional Collaboration and Social Practice (TJ Alliance), of which Shinshu University is also a member.

During the meeting with the President and senior officials of NCCU, both universities introduced their distinctive features and key initiatives, followed by an exchange of views focusing on University Social Responsibility (USR) and regional collaboration. The two institutions also confirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation in areas such as research exchange and student mobility.

In addition to the discussions, the delegation toured the university’s expansive Dah Hsian Seetoo Library, learning about its establishment, its role as an educational space, and its engagement with the local community. They also visited the oil industry and teahouses in the Wenshan District, where NCCU is located, and received briefings from local stakeholders on efforts to preserve traditional industries while creating new value.

NCCU actively engages in various community-based social practice initiatives guided by its philosophy of “Diversity and Inclusion · Shared Prosperity for Wenshan,” which emphasizes respect for diverse values and collaborative regional development. As Japan and Taiwan face similar social challenges—including declining birthrates, aging populations, and disparities between urban and rural development—it is expected that both sides will continue learning from each other’s experiences and further deepen their understanding of effective regional contribution.
