A delegation from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) visited Shinshu University from April 15 to 16, 2025.

The purpose of this visit was to see common areas of interest as comprehensive universities and to discuss the possibility of establishing cooperative relationships. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is one of Malaysia's leading universities, known for producing outstanding talents and contributing to national research projects, and is highly evaluated for its excellence in both education and research.

On April 15, the USM delegation, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Habibah, visited the laboratory of Special Emeritus Professor Dr. Morinobu Endo of the Institute for Aqua Regeneration in the Faculty of Engineering campus in Nagano City, and toured Shinshu University's RO membrane demonstration experiments and manufacturing processes under the guidance of Dr. Fajardo of the laboratory. The following morning on April 16, the delegation toured the Rehabilitation Center and the Radiology Division in the affiliated hospital at Matsumoto Campus, led by Professor Dr. Naoki Tanaka of the School of Medicine. Over the two-day visit, the delegation expressed a strong interest in the excellent research and technology of Shinshu University.

On visiting the president on April 16 afternoon, the delegation was welcomed by President Nakamura and five other representatives of Shinshu University, followed by lively exchanging of views on possible areas of cooperation. In the discussion, two universities agreed to enter signing a memorandum of understanding for academic cooperation and exchange. USM suggested that the signing ceremony be held at USM, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Habibah expressed her intention to invite the Shinshu University delegation, and the meeting ended in a friendly atmosphere. In the future, after the concluding of the memorandum, active international exchanges in education and research between the two universities are expected to be promoted.
