Global Gridded Model of Carbon Footprints in Asia

Dr. Keiichiro Kanemoto, Lecturer of the Faculty of Economics and Law, and an international research team including researchers at Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology, Yale University, and Lund University, published the analysis of carbon dioxide emission global supply chains in world cities.

They estimated the amount of carbon dioxide emission in the production process and supply chain of products and services of daily life in about 13,000 cities around the world, based on their proprietary supply chain database and population data and created the Global Gridded Model of Carbon Footprints.
The research result was published in the academic journal "Environmental Research Letters".

Before this, the carbon footprint in individual city was calculated in some studies, but no studies comprehensively estimated the carbon footprints of world cities. In this research, it was found that the consumption of 100 cities in the world induces 18% of carbon dioxide emissions of the world and major cities’ efforts for emission reduction would lead to substantial improvements.
