The Sakiori Project - An Industry-Academia-Welfare Collaboration Project of Shinshu University Faculty of Education

A Associate Professor Noriko Fukuda, Assistant Professor Sunao Hiruta, and students of Shinshu University Faculty of Education held a press conference in March 2013 to announce new products developed in collaboration with both a company that produces shirts and also social welfare corporations. The products use as raw material the excess material from the production of clothing and woven fabrics (sakiori) from old clothing. This is a very unique project in which all the product development, ranging from market surveys and product planning to producing the project logo, were undertaken by the Faculty of Education through the industry-academia-welfare collaboration. The special feature of this project was its style of collaboration that went beyond the framework of organizations. From the stage of project planning to completion, the design, prototype production, evaluation of the business plan, advice, etc., all progressed simultaneously, resulting in a project with streamlined communication.
