Shinshu University participated in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)-sponsored event “Science: Connecting You to the Future ~You Are the One Who Can Create the Future~” held at the EXPO Messe “WASSE” venue of the Osaka-Kansai Expo from August 14 to 19, 2025.
During the event, WASSE welcomed a total of approximately 70,000 visitors. Many people visited our university's exhibition booth and experienced the interactive content. The booth featured displays centered on cutting-edge water purification and regeneration technologies, as well as photocatalysts that directly decompose water to generate hydrogen. Visitors could “see, touch, and learn” about our research achievements creating the future, conveying the importance of actions connecting to the future.
For the stage event, we collaborated with popular YouTubers “Lambda Tech Club,” a two-person team who graduated from our university, to perform a water purification demonstration. They clearly explained the mechanism of RO membranes. Presenting the appeal of science in a format different from typical academic conferences was well-received by the large audience.
Additionally, on the 18th, SBC Shin-etsu Broadcasting hosted an Expo tour for elementary school students, bringing 20 groups from within the prefecture to visit the Shinshu University booth. This provided an opportunity to convey the importance of “taking action yourself” to the children who will shape the future.
At the “swee” water station within the venue, approximately 6,000 liters of water were provided during the event period. It was well-received as a space for contemplating a sustainable society and became the venue's longest queue.
Taking this exhibition as an opportunity, Shinshu University will deepen its research and advance initiatives focused on “Aqua Regeneration” for the restoration of the global environment.
Shinshu University, selected as a university of research excellence in the J-PEAKS* program, is tackling global water environmental issues.
