with President Yoo

On November 22, 2024, a delegation from Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea visited the Ueda Campus of Shinshu University (SU) for the signing ceremony of an inter-university MoU.

Since entering an inter-faculty academic exchange agreement between the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology of SU and the College of Engineering of SKKU in 2013, the parties have been actively engaged in research and educational exchange. The inter-university MoU will expand the partnership to enable school-wide academic exchange.

A four-member delegation led by President Yoo was welcomed by President Nakamura, Executive Director Nagamatsu (provost), Vice President Kim (global initiatives), and other related faculty members. With Assistant Professor Nakasato of the Center for Global Education and Collaboration as the MC, President Nakamura gave a welcome speech and expressed his hopes for strengthening international partnerships through the upgraded university-level academic exchange agreement. Sungkyunkwan University President Yoo expressed his joy at the swift conclusion of the academic exchange agreement and his hopes for the development of both universities through the expansion of areas of exchange between them.

After exchanging the signed agreements, the two presidents also presented each other with gifts to commemorate the strengthening of the partnership and ended the ceremony with smiles.

With a history and tradition of 625 years, SKKU is a top private university that continues to lead the development of higher education in Korea with its innovative research. Ranked 1st among private universities in Korea in THE World University Rankings 2025, SKKU is actively developing international networks to address global social issues. SKKU and SU have several common characteristics, including research fields such as nanotechnology and energy, as well as academic departments and affiliated hospital facilities, and we expect that the conclusion of this agreement will lead to the further promotion and development of academic exchange, including joint research.
