Nagano, Japan — Software Challenge Award 2021 by OGIS-RI Co.,Ltd. (information-communication industry) held online on Nov 11, 2021 and the students from Shinshu University Faculty of Engineering achieved the highest award. The contest has been held since 2010 targeting students with different themes each year. This time it was “Software contest: Disappears when mixed?”

“Little Woods” members belong to the lab of Professor Kazuki Kobayashi, and their newly developed system “Gott sun” aiming at increasing dining enjoyment was highly evaluated. The system utilizes “Cross-modality effects*” by projecting dining images (mixing effective lights) in order to make the usual meals look more appetizing (reducing plain-looking).

The 10 students of “Little Woods” are Genki Ueda, Kenta Nimura, Takaya Hondo, Yu Maruyama, and Yukino Yoritomi at Faculty of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Hideto Kubo, Zhao Yihong, Ren Hiraoka, Kazunari Yosihara, and Tatsuki Hori at Graduate School of Science and Technology (Electrical and Computer Engineering Division, Department of Engineering).

*Cross-modality effects: the ability to integrate information by interacting with two or more different senses such as sights, sounds, smells and tastes.
