Program-Specific Associate Professor (Non-tenured) at the Institute for Aqua Regeneration, Shinshu University Application Guidelines
1. Purpose and Background of the Recruitment
Shinshu University is working to strengthen research capabilities in the "Aqua Regeneration (ARG) field," which involves various fields related to regeneration of the global environment with special focus on water, such as the recycling and reusage of water and the generation and utilization of water-derived hydrogen energy. In addition, as our university is selected for the Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities with Regional Cores and Distinctive Characteristics (J-PEAKS), we aim to achieve even greater research excellence, innovation creation, and regional contribution. In March 2024, our research organization, the Institute for Aqua Regeneration (ARG Institute) was established. To promote research at our Institute, we are publicly recruiting faculty members.
The Zettsu Research Unit conducts fundamental and applied research on the development and functional exploration of energy conversion and storage materials, including rechargeable batteries, based on inorganic materials chemistry and electrochemistry. In particular, the Unit aims to create novel inorganic and electrochemical materials that support water-centered energy and material circulation through advanced control of material composition, structure, and interfaces, and to promote their practical implementation through industry–academia collaboration.
To further improve the performance of energy conversion and storage materials and accelerate their research and development, it is essential to integrate the design and synthesis of novel inorganic materials with structural and interfacial characterization and electrochemical evaluation. It is also important to advance materials discovery and functional evaluation by integrating data-driven approaches using artificial intelligence (AI), materials informatics, computational science, and automated and autonomous experimentation. Furthermore, collaboration with researchers in diverse fields within the ARG Institute—including water treatment, hydrogen, catalysis, membranes, materials science, and measurement and characterization—is expected to create new interdisciplinary research areas spanning water, energy, and material circulation.
Through this recruitment, we seek a researcher who can advance materials research contributing to the Aqua Regeneration field, based on inorganic materials chemistry and/or electrochemistry, with particular emphasis on water-centered energy and material circulation and energy conversion and storage technologies, including next-generation rechargeable batteries. The successful candidate is expected to engage in the design and synthesis of novel inorganic and electrochemical materials, structural and interfacial characterization, and electrochemical evaluation, while actively incorporating emerging approaches such as data science and automated or autonomous experimentation. We seek an individual who can contribute to the creation and practical implementation of innovative materials and technologies through collaboration with researchers within and outside the ARG Institute, as well as with industrial partners.
