Land of the King

The motif of Land of the King is the cityscape in Sweden, where I participated in a training programme at a local school in Uppsala. Sweden has a royal system, so I wanted to describe not only the cityscape, but also the king and the people. I depicted the king as a fish and the people as scales that come together to make a beautiful city.
To express the king and the people floating above the city, I decided on a horizontal format and chose drawing paper rather than wooden panels or canvas board. In addition, to create a detailed and vivid depiction of the cityscape and scale in this work, I used egg tempera, which dries quickly and allows for bright tones.
The bluish night sky, the fairy-tale atmosphere, and the buildings with their traditions highlight a beauty different from that of Japan.
Visiting Sweden was a valuable experience during my time at Shinshu University.
