1. What made you come train at Shinshu University School of Medicine and how did you find the School through your stay?
I saw the information about the elective program from the social media of my campus organization, then I applied and followed the selection process from my campus. From the selection process I was given the campus choices, and then I chose Shinshu because I heard good experience from my senior that ever did an exchange in Shinshu, and also, I did research about Shinshu and Matsumoto on internet and I think Shinshu University School of Medicine & hospital would be a great place for me to study.
2. Please describe your training at host department/lab.
It was amazing, everyone was so nice, they let me saw many procedures, I respected everyone here because everyone was so passionate with their job and all of them were very kind. For my department schedule, everyday had different agenda, so I got the chance to see every sub-department in cardiovascular. Every morning I had to join the conference to hear about the medical report. They let me learned from the cathe lab (saw angiography, catheter intervention), and operation room. Other than that, I also got the chance to learn echocardiography and listened to the heart sounds. Sometimes I also visited the patients with the doctors. If there's something that I didn't understand, the doctors always explained it for me. Overall it was unforgettable.
3. Please list what you have gained from your experiences through the training at Shinshu University and the stay in Matsumoto, Japan.
1. Of course, the first one is knowledges, especially about cardiovascular medicines. Before, I only have superficial knowledge about cardiovascular, but after I join the training, I got the chance to deepen my knowledge about cardiovascular from the expertise here, even though there's still a lot of things that I haven't learn, but this 4 weeks has taught me a lot about the diseases that related to the heart (especially the cases that often happen in Japan), the interventions, treatments and many more
2. Second are relations, I got to know the amazing doctors here, discussing about the topic that I still don't understand, especially in cardiovascular field. I also made friends with the medical students here, so I'm very happy to made relations with people outside my country.
3. Third, got the chance to experience different culture, went to festivals, tried out Japanese food, and also sightseeing around Matsumoto and Nagano.
4. How do you think you can apply those experiences to your future career?
Because I want to continue my career as a clinical doctor, the experiences here are very valuable. Witnessing medical procedures, seeing professionalism, the way the doctors communicate with the patients are the things that I will apply in the future. Coincidentally, because I'm also interested in the cardiovascular field, got to see the procedures that I haven't got the chance to see before really got me excited and more interested to learn cardiovascular in the future.
5. Advice to those who are interested in studying at Shinshu University.
My advice for anyone who are interested in studying in Shinshu university are do research of basic things about Japan, and also get to know your environment so you can prepare better. Last but not least, learn some basic Japanese words so you can connect with the people here.
