Things to do until Enrollment

Once you are granted admittance to Shinshu University, please check the procedures you need to follow from admission until enrollment depending on your program. Additionally, we recommend that you purchase travel insurance before leaving your home country for Japan.

1. Undergraduate, Graduate Students

Notification of eligibility for enrollment
Receive eligibility notification You can confirm whether or not you have passed the entrance exam and been admitted into the university in the following ways.
・University Website (Please note the announcement of results is available for a limited time on the website)
・Letter of Acceptance (sent by mail)
Enrollment procedure You will receive documents on admission procedures by mail. Please fill out and return the necessary documents by the designated deadline.
Obtain passport You need a passport issued by the government of your home country.
Apply for Certificate of Eligibility For applicable students, Shinshu University will submit an application on your behalf. Please submit the specified necessary documents to the university. You will receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) issued by the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau by e-mail, or another service that can be tracked.※1
Obtain visa When your CoE reached you, go to a Japanese Consulate or Embassy in charge of your area to apply for a visa.
Apply for exemption from admission and/or tuition fees If you wish to apply, please check the details on the Student Support Center website, and then download and submit the necessary documents within the designated period.Please also check the Tuition / Living Cost.
Housing If you would like to apply to stay in International House , please check the link below: Student Life
Apply for a permission to engage in activities other than study for a part-time job If you wish to have a part-time job in Japan, please apply for a form called,
“Permission to engage in an activity other than that permitted under the residence status” upon arrival at the immigration examination.

※1 Japanese government (MEXT) scholarship students do not need CoE. Shinshu University issues a Letter of Acceptance to prove MEXT students instead of CoE.

Sign a contract for a private apartment or similar residence Regular students are prioritized for permission to apply for International House, so research students will most likely need to rent a private apartment house. Please note that you need to find it by yourself and the university will not mediate between you and any agent.

After enrollment
Make bank transfer of admission and tuition fees. Apply for scholarship Please use the bank transfer form sent with the "Letter of Acceptance" to pay your admission and tuition fees by bank transfer.
There are currently no scholarships available for research students.
