To promote international research activities and to become a hub of functions and information for human and technological networks, we are reorganizing the existing Institute of High Polymer Research in order to establish the International Institute for Fiber Engineering Education and Research. The research projects at our new Institute encompass three divisions, which include the pursuit of ultimate molecular structures, creation of higher-order complex functional materials, and human sensibility manufacturing systems. The head of each research division reports to the research strategy leader in order to lead fundamental research in advanced fiber engineering through international collaborations as well as to generate innovations, which thereby promote the commercialization of our research results for a wide range of industrial applications. Additionally, to strengthen our practical education and research, we aim to actively collaborate not only with large corporations, but also with medium- and small-sized corporations in order to inherit their craftsmanship (through our enhanced internship) as well as to develop novel technologies. Furthermore, we are establishing the Fiber Prototype Development and Production Center within our Center.
