International Conference on Advanced Fiber / Textile Materials 2011 (Dec. 7 - 9) and
Asian Protective Clothing Conference 2011 (Dec.7 - 8) held at FTST, Shinshu University.

We had nearly 200 people attended the conference. In addition, 23 invited speakers from
7 different countries gave excellent talks during two conferences.
The 6th ICAFTM and The 2nd APCC ended with great success.

On July 17th, College of Textiles, North Carolina State University (United States of America), School of Materials, University of Manchester (United Kingdom), Institute of Textiles and Clothing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (P.R.China), and Faculty of Textile Science & Technology, Shinshu University (Japan) concluded MOU. Each University represents different regions of the worlds textile related universities.
Global Center unveiled followed by signing ceremony on the same day at FTST campus.
This MOU and Global Center accelerate exchanging students and faculties. It is exciting to know this MOU brings more opportunity of exchanging information through internet meeting, sharing teaching materials among 4 universities and so on. We are proud to say this is an unprecedented achievement and, very first time that internationally collaboration with multi-university. From now on, FTST, Shinshu University will have an office above 3 university campuses. To begin with, Global COE doctoral students will visit the University of Manchester for three months. In the near future, FTST has plan of translating NCSU’s well made textile e-learning program into Japanese.

Faculty of Textile Science & Technology, Shinshu University recently held an International Conference of Future Textile 2010 (July,15 〜17, 2010) at Research center for Advanced Science & Technology building, Meeting room 1.
This conference was conducted as commemorative symposium for the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of Faculty of Textile Science and Technology and Organized by International Center of Excellence on Fiber Engineering, Global COE office.
　This biennial event consists of exclusive joint symposium for 4 textile-related universities, College of Textiles, North Carolina State University (NCSU), University of Manchester (UMIST), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) and Shinshu University. 4 universities also co-founded Global Center in each other’s campus and cerebrated opening ceremony of foundlings at this special occasion.
During conference, we had 14 invited speakers, including France, Alsace’s leading Cluster Company, and 58 poster presentation by Global COE’s doctoral students.
　Open panel discussion was successfully held which planned by Fiber Innovation Incubator (FII). (FTST, Shinshu University promotes FII) Discussion was titled “Innovation in matured industry -Role of Government / Industry/ University cooperation – “and enjoyed very active exchange of ideas at this discussion.
During this conference, Shinshu University, FTST campus had total of 144 participants (54 foreigners included) and proud to say it closed its special event on a high note. Next conference will be held in 2012 at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

FTST, Faculty of Textile Science and Technology, Shinshu University, welcomed Dr Christy Cagle, Director of International Program, North Carolina State University, College of Textiles, to the newly founded Global Center in FTST on 27 - 29 March 2010.
Dr. Cagle met with Global COE leader Prof. Toshihiro Hirai and Prof. Kunihiro Hamada, Prof. Kanji Kajiwara and Prof. Kimio Hirabayashi to exchange opinions about research collaborations, student’s exchanges, and developing common curriculum.
Global Center was established based on recently signed MoU between two universities. Dr. Cagle is first official researcher to visit this Global Center. She also toured facilities and laboratories in FTST, where she was given an explanation about equipment's.
