Principles & History

The Doctoral Program was established to promote research and education of high technology in harmony with the environment.

Principles

The aims and objectives of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Technology are to develop environmental systems for integrating and harmonizing individuals and nature, to develop highly advanced manufacturing technologies, and to study their basic science within the fertile natural environment of Nagano.
For this purpose, the following five courses have been established to promote, through close cooperation between the courses, education and research of environmental systems and related harmonious high technologies.

  1. Research into the optimum products for individuals and nature, application of that objective to biofunctions and fibers, and research of high-dimensional functions for forming in the interface between technology and living organisms.
(Department of Bioscience and Textile Technology)
  2. Research and education of mechanical systems, electrical and electronic systems, high-performance precision devices and mathematical information science with the purpose of developing devices and systems in harmony with nature, society and individuals.
(Department of Mathematics and System Development)
  3. Study of natural phenomena from a materials science perspective, understanding the underlying basic concepts, and research and development of matter and materials with new functions.
(Department of Materials Science and Engineering)
  4. Comprehensive research and education ranging from basic research of environmental change in mountainous regions, to applied research of environmental conservation and disaster prevention.
(Department of Mountain and Environmental Science)
  5. Research into the establishment of innovative food production technologies based on bioscience with the aim of the development of sustainable food production based on environmental conservation. (Department of Bioscience and Food Production Science)
