Socieconomic changes in the world around us are constant and rapid, and we all have to deal with complicated challenges day and night. Society has created valuable new technologies to handle those issues, however, we have not yet successfully found perfect solutions for all of them. With this being said, we expect our Ph.D. candidates to not only excel in their research fields, but also develop a broader perspective on the human resources, leadership and management skills necessary to pursue comprehensive research projects. The advanced graduate program "Global Leader Program for Fiber Renaissance" is dedicated to endowing students with those qualities in the Textile and Fiber Engineering fields. We have prepared a curriculum for students to study textile and fiber engineering with a broad perspective: to improve communication skills in Japanese and in English, to develop real-world project implementation skills, and to boost your confidence in your personal capabilities. The Advanced Leading Graduate Program, a national effort to foster development of the next generation of leaders in order to realize a satisfying and sustainable future, has begun. Japan's top universities have joined forces to train exceptional, young students seeking to make a difference as the leaders of the future. As part of that effort, Shinshu University, the only university in Japan with a faculty dedicated to textiles, has launched its Global Leader Program for Fiber Renaissance. Fibers play a role as a core material in a vast array of industries, and textile products including clothing and lifestyle products enrich our daily lives. We must understand our country's strengths as well as conditions around the world, and as we search for opportunities to learn, compete, collaborate, and sell products to create a rich and satisfying future, we must do so globally.
The program incorporates an array of new educational components, including coursework and practical study designed to give students extensive knowledge and experience ranging from materials to products in a short period of time, English education and overseas internships to cultivate the ability to communicate effectively, research lab rotations and discussions with visiting faculty members from overseas in order to provide broad knowledge of advanced research, and group activities that foster leadership skills. It is not an easy process, but we will do our best to support diligent students. We look forward to observing their personal growth and future endeavors.
