Exotic nanocarbons (ENCs) are created by introducing different atoms into a nanocarbon base, which has superb, innovative functions that could not be obtained with traditional materials, and have great potential.
The 21st century is the carbon century. New carbon structures are the 21st century raw materials that create a path to new functional creations and technological innovations.
This project contributes to the creation of new local industries and their sustainable development (Nagano Nanocarbon Valley) by establishing fundamental science and creating exotic nanocarbons (based on graphene, carbon nanotubes, new one-dimensional carbyne, etc.) and pioneering new applications (high power lithium primary and secondary batteries, capacitors, high performance composites, electronics, functional materials, etc.).
