  この度の東北地方太平洋沖地震に際し、信州大学の国際交流協定校の皆様から、続々とお見舞いのメールやFAXを頂戴しております。温かい励ましのお言葉を、大変ありがたく思っております。

  信州大学のある長野県は、3月11日の東北地方太平洋沖地震及び翌日3月12日未明の新潟県・長野県境付近を震源とする地震で揺れを観測いたしました。大きな地震と津波がおさまってからは、東日本を中心に電力供給量が激減したこと、ガソリンが不足していること等から、交通機関や物流に支障が出ておりますが、お陰様で各キャンパスとも、これといった被害は出ておりません。現在、春季休業中であるため、学生の安否の確認を急いでおります。また、医学部附属病院から被災地へDMAT(災害派遣医療チーム）を派遣し、救助活動を行っております。

  信州大学といたしましては、皆様からお預かりしている留学生はもちろんのこと、在学生や教職員の安全確保に全力を挙げる所存です。また、力の及ぶ限り、被災地への支援も行います。

  個別に御礼申し上げるべきところではございますが、できるだけ多くのご心配くださっている皆様にご覧いただきたく、このような形でのご挨拶とさせていただきました。貴学の関係者の皆様にも、お伝えいただければ幸いです。

To Our International Exchange Partners Abroad


Since the Tohoku-Pacific Earthquake on March 11, Shinshu University has received a continuous stream of e-mails and faxes expressing concern from many of the universities with which it has entered into exchange agreements. We thank you all for your warm messages of sympathy and support.

Here in Nagano Prefecture we felt the earthquake that struck the Tohoku-Pacific coast. Early on the following morning there was also an earthquake on the border between the Prefectures of Nagano and Niigata. In the wake of the major earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku there has been a significant drop in the supply of electricity and shortages of gasoline, mainly in eastern Japan. As a result, there have been severe disruptions to transport systems and logistical networks. None of the University’s campuses, however, have sustained any damage. We are currently in the middle of the spring vacation and are making urgent efforts to confirm that our students are safe and well. A Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) has been dispatched from the University’s hospital to the disaster zone and is now participating in the rescue operation.

We are, of course, doing our utmost to ensure the safety of the international students in our care and of all the other students and staff in the University. We will also do whatever we can to support the relief effort for the victims of the earthquake.

We would very much have preferred to reply individually to all of the many expressions of concern, but by posting this message to the University website we hope to reach the largest number of people as quickly as possible.

We would appreciate it if anyone who reads this could pass this message on to those concerned. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
