2025.12.15 (Mon)

On Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, the "Flat World" campaign introduced American University Chico State at Matsumoto Campus held by student supporters. The campaign, dubbed "Flat World", is introducing students to study abroad opportunities available through Shinshu University. This month one of the regions being introduced is the United States. American students currently studying at Shinshu University were paired up with Japanese students to create presentations promoting their home universities. Chico State was the first event, followed by Oklahoma State University on Tuesday, December 16th, and California State University, Sacramento on Thursday, December 18th.

First, the students created promotional flyers, showing off mascots and school colors to introduce their college. Each piece was carefully considered by the students to ensure that their school was properly represented. This sentiment was carried on to their presentations, where the students worked together to provide an accurate portrayal of their respective universities. Each university has so much to offer, and so summarizing them simply proved quite difficult.

The room was filled with students and teachers alike who came to see the event. The abroad student studying from Chico State, University held the presentation in Japanese for the first 10 minutes, after which questions were taken as well as general conversation about the university in Japanese and English. Particular interest was taken in her experience working at a local burger restaurant near Chico State campus. Something that surprised Japanese students was her 8-hour commute from Chico State to her hometown, Temecula, California. Travelling by car such a distance is considered relatively short for a large country like the United States. Students were also surprised that Chico State off-campus housing has free pool accommodations.
