2025.12.25 (Thu)

On Thursday, December 18th, for the "Flat World" project assigned to us by GEC, the department in charge of international relations at Shinshu University in Matsumoto, Japan, introduced California State University, Sacramento. "Flat World" is an event where Japanese and international students form pairs and introduce different colleges in America. The first presentation was introducing Chico State, followed by the Oklahoma State presentation, and lastly finished off by the Sacramento State presentation.

We met once a week for about a month to work on the presentation. We talked about what kind of information and how to present the information. We also talked about the possibility of people attending this presentation and not knowing anything about Sacramento State, so we wanted to properly introduce where Sacramento is located in California, and places you can travel to from Sacramento. Also, when using Sacramento State's website, we came across information that we weren't aware of, so we also had fun finding out more information about the school.

For the advertisement poster, we used a prompt from Sacramento State's website. We included things like there being over 3,000 trees on campus, making the nature really rich and important to the campus.

On the day of the presentation, the poster we created was effective. There were a lot of people who came to watch our presentation, which made us happy, but at the same time made us a little nervous.

We introduced things like the number of students at the school, percentage of different ethnicities and genders, different available majors/departments, meal plan and dorm prices, etc. For the dorms, we were able to show a 3D model tour of the different dorms which made showing what living in the dorms would actually look like very easy. After that, we introduced the different clubs available, and the differences between clubs in America and Japan, which was difficult because of the number of students enrolled at the school.

Those who were able to stay and listen to the end all seemed to enjoy the information and way we decided to present, even applauding us after we finished. This made us feel proud that we decided to take on this activity. It also allowed us to realize that there a lot of people interested in studying abroad or even just in opportunities overseas. We hope that we can deepen connections with such people and exchange different kinds of information and advice about different countries moving forward.
