Shinshu University has been selected for the Inter-University Exchange Project with US-Universities

Shinshu University's project titeld "STEAM-Powered Capacity Development through Transnational Project-Based Learning for Community Challenges" has been selected as the Inter-University Exchange Project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan for the 2023 academic year. The project, starting in October of fiscal year 2023, will run for a maximum of next five years.

Utilizing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) with six partner universities in the United States, the program will facilitate diverse student exchanges both online and face-to-face. Furthermore, it aims to implement the combination of project-based co-learning and STEAM education system for the theme of community challenges existing around Shinshu University and U.S. partner universities, where Japanese and U.S. students collaborate to explore and implement solutions to regional issues related to industry, welfare, tourism, agriculture, education, and other areas, contributing to Digital Transformation (DX) and Green Transformation (GX). In this project, Shinshu University students will be able to grow as globally competent human resources for engaging community challenges through the experience of COIL, studying abroad, and cross-disciplinary PBL, as well as through the improvement of their English language skills.

Human resources for engaging community challenges equipped with the international ability to co-create with various people while embracing diversity, and exploring to tackle challenges with inquiry, creative thinking, and practical action, making full use of the "comprehensive knowledge", which transcends the boundaries of the humanities and sciences is needed. The project aims to develop further international educational exchanges with the partner universities in the U.S. and through this initiative, it seeks to cultivate individuals who can share the aspiration to address future social challenges.

The Inter-University Exchange Project initiative, aimed to nurture global human resources who work on the international stage and strengthen the global development of university education while assuring the quality of higher education is a series of projects launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in fiscal year 2011 for the purpose of providing financial support for efforts on the formation of collaborative programs with universities in designated countries and regions that conduct study abroad programs for Japanese students and accepting foreign students.
