Natural disasters and environment

Code:G2B60148 / Instructor:TSUTSUMI Daizo

Course Description

Japan is a place where four tectonic plates converge, making it prone to frequent earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity, in addition to a heightened risk of landslides and floods due to its geological and meteorological conditions. Global warming is now causing increased concern about the intensification of weather disasters. After learning the fundamentals of these natural disasters—their occurrence patterns, predisposing factors, and triggers—students shall learn about earthquake resistance in buildings, reconstruction after disasters, and the relationship between the environment where humans live and disasters.
