Lectures by Prof. Adrej Demšar

We invited Professor Adrej Demšar of the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia to give a series of lectures from August 1 to 5. Saše Einsiedler, a collaborator of Professor Demšar's, participated in the workshop-style sessions, which addressed the question of how students and others in the field can contribute to this generation and the next as well as topics such as the potential of fibers and issues being faced by the fiber industry (child labor and harsh work environments). The five days differed in approach from past sessions.

On the last day, each student gave a three-minute presentation titled "My dream contribution to this and the next generation." The students, who had learned about the importance of looking beyond their immediate surroundings so that they can see the big picture and of cultivating an uncompromising tenacity, delivered a series of enthusiastic presentations. Listeners offered heartfelt applause for these wonderful speeches, which left them with goosebumps.
