Presentation Skills Seminar

Activity report

We hosted a presentation skills seminar for our program students on June 27, 2015. We had two instructors, Dr. Lane and Ms. Chong, from Edanz Group Ltd.

While presenting researches is crucial for a researcher, our university doesn't give any lectures on the basics or effective presentation. So it was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn how to present their research effectively, such as poster layout, poster formatting, methodology, the importance of logical flow when making slides, effective titles, and such. It must have been exhausting for the students (and probably for Dr. Lane and Ms. Chong, too) since the seminar took a whole day from 9am to 6pm, but it was so nice to hear them say they can't wait to use those new tips for their next presentation. The students have been given an assignment which they have to complete by the next seminar we will have in October, we can expect the next one will be more practical than theoretical. At the end of the seminar, Mr. Tatsuya Ishikawa, a 3rd year student, thanked the instructors on behalf of the Leading Program.

We were not very sure if seminars on effective writing and presentation skills could be something really useful for the Leading Program students when we planned them originally, but now we know they are, so we will have this kind of seminars next year, too.
