The Minami-Minowa Faculty of Agriculture campus is located at the base of the Central Alps, 773m above sea level on the Shinshu area’s invigorating high plains.
The vast campus of 53ha has farms and an experimental forest enabling students to perform practical and research work on animal husbandry, rice, vegetable, fruit and ornamental horticulture cultivation and tree trimming. Also, it has the Yurinoki science museum of food and greenery, and school buildings in forest surroundings of larch and red pine trees.
Students, faculty members and co-op staff of the Faculty of Agriculture have cooperatively established and developed a unique ecological campus, for nurturing environmentally-minded human resources, with the aim to pioneer the frontier of food and greenery, to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life and to create a healthy and affluent society.
In November 2006, the established ecological campus was certified according to ISO 14001 - the International Environmental Management System standard.

The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Student Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture promotes activities to accomplish zero emissions on campus by plotting out standards to separate renewable resources from waste which are applied over all ecological campuses, and by researching the actual rate of waste separation.
The members of the committee participate in internal audits as internal auditors and play an important role in ISO 14001 certification.
In addition, the committee takes environmental measurements of air and water quality, and produces composting waste from the co-op cafeteria for use in the vegetable gardens to promote campus zero emissions. The committee also organizes volunteer activities such as the thinning and pruning of the trees to improve the campus environment.
The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Student Committee produced ecological information boards using recycled wood from the experimental forest and pruning tasks to display information about environment conservation activities to students and faculties on the campus.
As well as producing ecological information boards, the committee produces planters made from recycled wood and donates them to public facilities such as schools involved in a local flower campaign to brighten the area with floral displays. Such activities expand environmental-friendliness not only on the campus but also through co-operation with the local community.
