Faculty of Education
The Nagano Education campus of the Faculty of Education is located in the west of Nagano city.
The Faculty of Education is a traditional faculty for training teachers and has produced many of the teachers that helped establish the Shinshu education system.
The Faculty of Education has established and developed an ecological campus through the work of students, faculties and co-op staff in order to train teachers of an ecological mind and with the aim of realizing a recycling-based society.
In December 2005, the campus was certified according to ISO 14001 - the International Environmental Management Systems. standard. This certification has also been granted to the Institute of Nature Education in Shiga Heights located in the Shiga national park. In December 2007, the ISO 14001 certification expanded to Shinshu University Nagano University-affiliated schools and kindergarten in Nagano city as well as Shinshu University Matsumoto junior high school in Matsumoto city.

The establishment of ecological campuses at the Faculty of Education,University-affiliated schools and kindergarten, with ISO 14001 certification are regarded as the base of experimental environment education, and also are expected to significantly promote practical environment education in elementary and junior high schools throughout Nagano prefecture.
The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Student Committee promotes activities to accomplish zero emissions on the campus by researching the actual rate of waste separation accomplishment.
The members of the committee also participate in internal audits as internal auditors and play an important role in ISO 14001 certification. In addition to these ISO 14001 activities, the committee works on unique activities such as making educational materials on worm composting and supporting environment conferences for children.
