7 Qualifications: This recruitment is based on the “Promotion and
Establishment of Tenure-Track Employment Program” supported by the Ministry
of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan in order to foster
young researchers. Applicants must have a Ph.D. earned within the past ten
years. Experience in postdoctoral research is highly desirable. Any researchers
currently enrolled in a doctoral course have no qualification to apply.

9 Working Conditions
Position: Assistant Professor (Tenure-track)
Employment: Full-time
Period for Tenure-Track: Five years (from April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2017)
Place of Work: 4-17-1 Wakasato, Nagano City, Nagano, Japan
Salary: Determined in accordance with the regulations of Shinshu University
10 Research Environment:
A successful candidate will have an independent research space and start-up
funds 15 million yen (which is the maximum amount of fiscal years 2012 and 2013
in total. The amount is subject to change based on the project cost provided) is
provided by the "Promotion and Establishment of Tenure-Track Employment
Program" supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology.
The President's research fund will also be provided (from the third year of
employment).
Research time of 70% effort rate will be assured throughout the tenure-track
employment period.
11 Evaluation for Tenured Position: Tenure evaluation is scheduled in the first
half of the fifth years. The candidate, after successfully passing the evaluation,
will be appointed as a tenured faculty member (with the mandatory retirement age
of 65) from the sixth year. The tenure evaluation will be based on the
achievements in research, education and administrative activities. The details of
the evaluation criteria will be briefed at the time of a hiring interview.
12 Selection Procedure: Selection based on submitted academic records and
subsequent personal interview.
In accordance with Basic Act for Gender-Equal Society and Equal Employment
Opportunity, an achievement-oriented selection will be made without being
influenced by gender or nationality. Japanese language skill is not prerequisite
for the selection but the skill will be required for a tenured appointment.

(1) Curriculum Vitae (Form 1)
(2) List of research achievements: Categorize achievements into books, academic
papers, papers presented at international conferences, comments, oral
presentations at academic conferences, patents etc. All the names of joint
authors must be written if applicable. (Form 2)
(3) Offprint of major papers (ten or fewer, offprint or copy)
(4) Summary of past research activities and outline of education (approximately two
pages on A4 size paper for each topic)
(5) Future research plan and aspirations for education (approximately one page on
A4 size paper)
(6) Letter of recommendation
(7) An electronic medium (e.g. CD) that includes one PDF file on which all the
documents of the above-mentioned (1) to (6) are stored

*2 Mail original documents of (1) to (6) and an electronic medium of (7) enclosed in
one envelope.
