Introduction:

On July 17th, 2010, Dr. Blanton Godfrey (Dean, College of Textiles, North Carolina State University, USA), Dr. Paul Hogg (Dean, School of Materials, The University of Manchester, UK), Dr. John Xin (Associate Head, Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, China), and Dr. Kunihiro Hamada (Dean, Faculty of Textile Science & Technology, Shinshu University) concluded Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) simultaneously and established Global Center (Each center has its original name for it) in each university.
This MOU and Global Center will assist and accelerate exchange of students and academic scholars in the future. In the future, the four universities (NCSU, University of Manchester, HLPU and Shinshu University), we provide various information to faculty and students interested in studying abroad and research activities as well.
It will bring more opportunity of exchanging information through internet meetings, sharing teaching materials among 4 universities and more.

Use of Overseas Global Centers

Faculty and students of Shinshu University are welcome to use International Office -Exchange Partner Universities. The room can be used for various purposes. It is equipped with computers (English version software installed), web camera and Skype. Please make the best use of facility and information provided by International Office – Exchange Partner Universities.

  • Providing information to Shinshu University students who wish to study in any of NCSU, University of Manchester and Hong Kong Polytech University
  • Providing information to international students who wish to study in Shinshu University.
  • Introduction of Shinshu University and briefing meeting for overseas study.
  • Using Global Centers for admission interview.
  • Exchanging information with prestigious universities in North America, Europe and Asia.
  • Accommodations to research activities for Shinshu University researchers in North America, Europe and Asia.
  • Implementation of interviews and meetings via TV conference system in Shinshu University (Including Skype).
  • Coordination of national and international research (including corporate research)-National and international intelligence collection.

Shinshu University, International Office –Exchange Partner Universities works together hand-in-hand with the other three University’s Global Centers to provide a variety of support for students and faculty who wish to go abroad. Also, we provide information on a wide range of matters for students from abroad to make their experience on Shinshu University as enjoyable and rewarding.

Oversea Branch Activity

-NCSU-

  • International Visitors office, NCSU has undergraduate student who wish to study in short term at FTST, Shinshu University. Further details are discussed and hoping to arrange by next summer.
  • Brazil, SENAI / CETIQT researcher has been introduced by International Visitors office, NCSU, who wish to study Master program in FTST, Shinshu University. We now preparing for his entrance examination coming February, 2011.
  • International Visitors office and TexED (Textile Extension for Economic Development), NCSU shares e-learning materials with FTST, Shinshu University. We are now translating those materials into Japanese.

  • Doctoral student, from Dept. of Bioscience & Textile Technology, Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Technology, is currently studying at University of Manchester period of Sep through Dec, 2010.
