Understanding Japanese Corporations: Working with Company Reps to Develop the PR Strategies

Course Description

This course is primarily intended for international students interested in finding employment in Japan. Japanese students who wish to engage in group work with international students from new perspectives are also welcome.
(Requirement: international students should have JLPT N2 or above; exchange students should be at Japanese language level D or higher.)

Students work in teams on recruitment PR strategies targeting international students. Through lectures by company representatives and presentations/proposals to those representatives, students will:

* Deepen their understanding of Japanese companies
* Develop skills in information gathering and industry/company research
* Connect these experiences to future career development and job hunting

Course Plan

1. Oct 1: Orientation (course objectives, plan, etc.)
2. Oct 8: Overview of Japanese industry and companies; introduction of partner companies (group formation and assignment); pre-course survey
3. Oct 15: Company introduction & task explanation (1): question workshop and Q&A
4. Oct 22: Company introduction & task explanation (2): question workshop and Q&A
5. Oct 29: Company introduction & task explanation (3): question workshop and Q&A
6. Nov 5: Research planning, preparation for data collection, case studies of recruitment PR and branding
7. Nov 12: Plan sharing and in-class feedback; revision
8. Nov 19: Confirmation of research plan with partner companies (online session)
9. Dec 3: Research work (group-based scheduling)
10. Dec 10: Progress sharing and continuation of work
11. Dec 17: Preparation of presentations and deliverables
12. Dec 24: Final presentations (proposals to company representatives)
13. Jan 7: Company research practice (learning about companies in the Global Career Fair)
14. Jan 15: Participation in the Global Career Fair (organized by Nagano Prefecture)
15. Jan 21: Final reflection and course evaluation
