Course Description

The course objective is to consider solutions to local issues and challenges, using your learning and expertise. Students shall create a portfolio (a record organizing their university learning and experiences while considering future goals) to visualize their interests and strengths. Further, they shall learn the fundamentals of digital transformation (DX) and zero-carbon issues and consider their application to regional challenges. These activities will prepare students for active participation in the Regional Challenges PBL course in the following years.

Course Plan

1 Portfolio Creation (1) - Organizing your learning
Reflect on your university studies and experiences and visualize your interests and strengths. Create a portfolio (a record organizing your growth and goals) to clarify the skills you have acquired thus far and your future goals.
2 Understanding Regional Challenges - Considering the connections with society
Learn about the challenges faced by local communities (such as declining birthrate and aging population, depopulation, and environmental issues) and connect them to your interests. Refer to case studies of the regional revitalization cooperation teams and consider how to engage with the community.
3 DX Fundamentals - Solving Regional Challenges with Digital Technology
Learn the basic concepts of digital transformation (DX) and consider how to apply it to regional issues. Explore the possibilities of DX based on examples such as regional digitalization.
4 Applying DX - Realizing Your Ideas
Learn the steps to realize your ideas for solving regional challenges using DX, organize your ideas, and consider their feasibility.
5 Fundamentals of Promoting Zero Carbon - Thinking About the Future of the Environment and Local Communities
Learn the fundamentals of promoting zero carbon and explore solutions to environmental challenges. Understand the importance of zero-carbon promotion through regional examples.
6 Planning Zero-Carbon Promotion Policies - Ideas for Sustainable Regional Development
Considering effective ways and methods to promote zero carbon, designing initiatives to collaborate with others rather than focusing on individual efforts. Organizing challenges, developing plans for execution, and refining ideas into feasible forms.
7 Leveraging Expertise: Connecting Your Learning to Society
Consider the relationship between your area of expertise and regional challenges and explore specific ways of application. Deepen practical ideas while exploring the possibility of cooperation across different fields.
8 Portfolio Creation (2) - Integrating Learning and Moving To the Next Step
Integrate your learnings and complete your portfolio. Clarify what themes you want to work on and leverage your expertise for the next fiscal year's Regional Challenges PBL. * A class questionnaire will be administered.
