Course Description

The purpose of this course is to deepen your understanding of the social aspects of medical care from the following two perspectives.
・Medical care is supported by various professionals.
・Medical care also appears in many movies and TV shows.
In this course (seminar), we will utilize the practical experiences of the faculty member in charge as a clinical psychologist and licensed psychologist. Group work (GW) will also be incorporated; thus, please actively participate in the discussions.

Class 1: Course orientation (by lottery if there are too many applicants); GW: watching part of the 79-minute movie Touch 2
Class 2: Getting to know various healthcare professionals (1)—Lecture introducing nurses, midwives, and public health nurses
Class 3: Getting to know various healthcare professionals (2)—Lecture introducing clinical laboratory technicians
Class 4: Getting to know various healthcare professionals (3)—Lecture introducing physical therapists
Class 5: Getting to know various healthcare professionals (4)—Lecture introducing occupational therapists
Class 6: Getting to know various healthcare professionals (6)—Lecture introducing clinical psychologists and licensed psychologists (watching part of the first episode of the TV series Promise for Tomorrow)
Class 7: ""Mental care"" in disaster-affected areas
Class 8: Locked-in syndrome (watching part of the 112-minute film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Getting to know various healthcare professionals (7)—Introducing speech therapists
Class 9: Discrimination and prejudice (1) (watching the first half of the 97-minute movie My Friend Forever)
Class 10: Discrimination and prejudice (2) (watching the second half of the 97-minute movie My Friend Forever + GW)
Class 11: Addiction and support activities (off-campus guest speaker planned)
Class 12: Savior siblings (1) (watching the first half of the 110-minute movie My Sister's Keeper)

Class 16: Final exam (multiple choice + free writing); assisted reproductive technology (watching part of the TV program ""Who am I? Children born with AID”)

Lectures 2, 3, 4, 5, and 11 will be given by guest speakers.
