English Linguistics for Non-specialists

Course Description

Many students view English in the context of "language learning" from a young age. In this course, students will learn about English from the
perspective of linguistics and become accustomed to seeing English as an object of "research." Specifically, students will learn about the relationship
between language skills and human cognitive skills in the first half of the course and then about the relationship between language skills and society in
the second half, mainly using actual examples from English.
