Dr. Junko Ohkanda
Professor, Institute of Agriculture, Shinshu University

Junko Ohkanda received her Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 1996 and conducted her postdoctoral research under the supervision of Professor A. D. Hamilton at Yale University from 1998 to 2003. After working at Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Connecticut, she started her independent academic career in Japan at Tokyo Gakugei University, and was later appointed as an associate professor at Osaka University (Professor Nobuo Kato's research lab) in 2005 and Kyoto University (Professor Motonari Uesugi's research lab) in 2013. In October 2016, she was promoted to Professor at the Department of Agriculture, Shinshu University, where her research group focuses on programs in bioorganic medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. Her research interests include the design of synthetic molecules that modulate intracellular protein interactions based on rational and semi-rational approaches using structure-based design and focused combinatorial libraries.
