The 36th International Seminar: Lecture by Dr. OBANA Ayato of Ohio State University

On August 29, 2025, Dr. Obana, a graduate from Shinshu University School of Medicine who is now a clinical instructor at the Dept of Abdominal Transplant Surgery in Ohio State University, visited Shinshu University and gave a lecture in the 36th International Seminar. After graduating from Shinshu University School of Medicine in 2013, Dr. Obana underwent an internship at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka and he is now active at the forefront of the field of transplantation, performing more than 200 liver, kidney and simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants in a year. Thanks to the connection between Dr. Obana and Prof. YUZURIHA Shunsuke, we were able to hold this seminar, jointly organized by the Dept of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. At the seminar, 40 participants including graduate and undergraduate students, doctors and faculty listened intently to Dr. Obana 's impassioned talk about his careers and the recent trends in transplantation in the U.S. Following the seminar, a buffet party was held, where participants thoroughly enjoyed conversation and had a great time.

I believe that the seminar provided a valuable opportunity for participating students, encouraging them to study abroad. I expect to see more and more students make their way in the world like Dr. Obana.
