Also we expect that some positive eects followed in some of the companies participating in the Shinshu Course. How far can we expect them to go is still uncertain but let’s just look briey at what some individuals can achieve from the business world? This has many examples of individuals who became personally highly motivated and steered their companies to a more sustainable model. Examples mentioned in the ‘sustainability and business’ course include such names as Interface carpets, Nike and its ‘North Star’ vision, Puma, Ricoh, Panasonic and many others. But I would like to briey mention two recent individual examples of environmental leaders.3.1 Apple’s Tim CookApple used to be seen as indifferent to issues of company sustainability - symbolized by its refusal at a shareholders meeting in February 2011 to issue annual sustainability reports. Apple had also been forced to withdraw some of its products from the voluntary green product labelling schemes due to problems of materials and recycling, before rejoining some categories in 2012.
