Local Innovator Development ProgramGlobal Core Competency ProgramEco-Mind Program: Experience-Based Training for Environmental CompetenceStrategy Design CompetencyProgramLife Creator CompetencyProgramShinshu University, Nagano University, and Saku University were chosen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for the “Supereminent Program for Activating Regional Collaboration (SPARC),” and are working together to develop the “ShinXia” Advanced Human Resource Development Program for Regional Revitalization, which will create “Shiawase Shinshu” (Well-being for Shinshu). The project has established a corporation to promote university cooperation. Collaboration between industry, academia, government, and financial institutions within the prefecture has built a curriculum that will nurture human resources with the skills needed to address the problems facing the region. From academic 2024, with a view to digital transformation and the realization of a recycling-oriented society, the three universities have been offering collaborative courses that offer cross-disciplinary learning across the boundaries of universities and provide opportunities for practical learning in the community.General Education: where first-year students from all faculties come togetherShinshu University has eight faculties situated on five campuses across Nagano Prefecture. First-year students from all faculties (and second-year students in the School of Medicine) study together on the Matsumoto Campus, where they take general education courses.Shinshu Data Science Program (Literacy Level)The Center for General Education runs the Data Science Literacy course, which is mandatory for all first-year students. The center also offers a number of optional courses in data science, allowing all first-year students to acquire a good grasp of data science literacy during their education. This program has been recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as an MDASH Approved Program for Mathematics, Data Science and AI Smart Higher Education, and has also been selected for the MDASH+ Program. (Recognition valid until March 31, 2028.)Cross-Faculty Competency Training ProgramCourses on Regional Societies, Globalization, the Environment, Data Science, and Applications of AI are open to all students, regardless of faculty or year of study. These constitute a special education program unique to Shinshu University. The aim of these five courses is to enable students to develop practical skills and to learn to think about the future, while cultivating a spirit of entrepreneurship.
