The three feathers that make up the wing represent the three tenets of the University: Education, Research, and Social Contribution. Together they form the dynamic image of a bird as it takes wing through the international community. At the same time, the symbol also represents Nature, Society, and the Individual, combining to move forward into the future. The three-stage color gradation from light to deep green symbolizes the rich beauty and vitality of Shinshu’s natural environment, and our aspirations for the growth of our students and the further development of the University.A symbol of Nagano, the elegant komakusa is known as the “queen of alpine flowers.” Shinshu University adopted the komakusa as a motif on its lapel badge in 1950. It has been cherished by many people ever since.
