Various approaches were implemented, including making journal articles available to the public free of charge. We will continue to promote immediate open access to research outputs of the university and contribute to the local community. Senior students provide study support in basic science subjects, specialized subjects, English, and paper-writing skills in several of the libraries (Central, Engineering, and Agriculture). Online sup-port has also recently been added to the learning support system. The Shinshu University Archives were created to preserve historical materials related to the University and the local area for future generations. In coopera-tion with the local community and local authorities, we work on the systematic collection, organization, and preservation of materials, facilitate research and organize public exhibitions, and train the personnel who work on these initiatives.Shinshu University has books and journals that serve as a basis for learning, educa-tion and research at each library, as well as e-books, e-journals with over 14,000 titles, and academic databases, all of which can be accessed by members of the University. Libraries offer common learning spaces and some of them provide opportunities for students to consult with graduate students who act as learning advisors. The University Library collaborates with local public libraries on inter-library loans, enabling members of the local community to access Library resources.Library holdings (FY2024)* Central Library and Faculty LibrariesCentralThe library acts as a repository for a wide range of valuable books and works of art, including paintings. These are contained in various individual collections, including the Kotani Collection, one of the most important collections of materials related to mountains in Japan, along with the Kita Morio Library and the Ishii Tsuruzo Art Collection.
