45ProfessorMORIWAKI HiroshiProfessorYAMAMOTO HirokiOutlook for researchI believe that understanding the state ofenvironmental contamination while developingpurification methods is essential for the futureof humanity. Through environmental analysisand research on purification, I hope to obtainin addressingresultsnumerous environmental problems.that prove usefulOutlook for students after graduationI carry out education and research to trainin the nextstudentsto become leadersgeneration of environmentalresearch andmeasures. Graduates are employed as publicengaged inofficialsenvironmental analysis and inspection.and byOutlook for researchIn the future, my goalis to establish a raremetal recovery system using B. subtilis strainswith altered cell wall polymers,to makeeffective use of the genetic resources of itsclosestrelatives, and to apply associatedtechnology to the development of antibacterialagents for pathogenic bacteria.Outlook for students after graduationGraduates are typically employed by food andpharmaceutical companies. Some choose tocontinue theirresearch at domestic andoverseas research organizations.Learning from the environment through environmental analysis and developing new environmental purification methods using materials creating by living organismsDepartment ofApplied BiologyDepartment ofApplied BiologyProfessor Moriwakitook his currentposition in 2015 after working as aresearcher at the Osaka City Institute ofPublicEnvironmentalandSciences and as an associate professoratFaculty of Textile Science andTechnology at Shinshu University. Hisareas of research include environmentalchemistry and analytical chemistry withaofenvironmental purification and analysismethods as well as environmentalmonitoring.Professortook hisYamamotocurrent position in 2023 afterserving in the Faculty of TextileScience and Technology at ShinshuUniversity as an assistant professorand associate professor. His areasof research include microbiology toexamineofmolecules functioning in the cellsof microorganisms and appliedmicrobiology to make use of thelatent capabilities of microbes.A student searches for bacterialsubstances that will activate theimmune system of animal cells. We also make observations using anelectron microscope so we do notmiss slight changes.Throughout the world, countless children contract communicablediseases because they do not have access to safe water. In this way, purification is an extremely important research topic. We analyzed mud from the moat of Osaka Castle to recreate 350years in the history of the atmospheric environment. The aerialbombing during the war caused the greatest damage to theenvironment.A student uses a fluorescence microscope to assess the effect on the cell when cell wall polymers are modified.I am carrying out research in a wide range of domains related toenvironmental contamination, from environmental analysis andtoxicologicaltesting to the development of environmentalpurification methods. This effort includes numerous activities, forexample analyzing litter and searching in caves for microorganismsthat might be useful in environmental purification. In recent years,my lab has been focusing on the development of environmentalpurification methods that use materials produced by living things. In order to discover the novel functions and networks ofthe 4,100 genes that make up the Bacillus subtilis genome,my lab is cooperating with domestic and internationalresearch labs to carry out more detailed research. Webelieve that B. subtilis is an important microorganismresource, and we are working to develop a deeperunderstanding of its potential so that we can utilize it.companiesHealthdevelopmentfocustheonpropertiestheMaking effective use of microorganism resources: Discovering and applying the potential capabilities of Bacillus subtilis
