Why not become anenvironmental biologist?Outlook for students after graduationOur graduates are active as researchers atfacilitiesresearchpharmaceuticallocal public organizations, pestcompanies, controlqualityand waterinspection companies, etc.companies,Researching human health and protection of the freshwater environment and analyzing water environment changes using aquatic insects as biological indicatorsDepartment ofApplied BiologyDepartment ofApplied BiologyWe are researching the relationship between the benthonicfauna of the freshwater environment (i.e., rivers, lakes, andmarshes) and water qualities (trophic status). We use changes inthe composition, densities and biomass of various species, andtheir role in the aquatic ecosystem to learn and monitor of thechanges to the freshwater environment. We capture the signalsgiven by aquatic organisms to learn about the current waterenvironment and predict future trends.Afterfrom theNagoya University Graduateschool,Professor Hayashidaworked at RIKEN and thenmoved to Shinshu University toestablish the Gene ResearchCenter before taking his currentposition in 2009. His area ofresearch is plant molecularBreeding.Professor Hirabayashitook his currentposition in 2007 after working as anassociate professor atthe YamanashiJunior College, and as anWomen'sassociateShinshuprofessorUniversity. He has served on the academicstaff at the University College of London inthe UK and on the associate professor atthe University of Melbourne in Australia.AppliedResearchSanitaryEcology,Zoology, and Environmental Hygiene.Carrying out a survey of benthicfauna by damming a portion of ariver, as part of a joint project withtheResearchInstitute of the Ministry of Land, andInfrastructure,Tourism.Public WorksTransportThe greatest ability of plants is photosynthesis, butthe white areas have lost that ability. Understandingwhy this is willlead to an understanding ofphotosynthesis itself.Even though Chinese cabbage and turnips do not look alike, they are infact a single species that can cross-pollinate. If we can understand whythe forms are so different, we may be able to change the shapes ofother crops in similar ways.Carrying out a survey of aquatic insects in the Azusa River, theKamikochi Special Protected Area, with permission from theMinistry of the Environment. (Background: Mt. Yakedake)Chironomid larvae usedas an indicator of aquaticenvironments. In the future, it wi ll be the oretically possible tocreate weeds that collect poisons that havespread through the environment or roadsidetrees that glow without using electricity, or tomake different fruits like bananas or apples thattaste like chocolate or vanilla all on a single tree,as one might expect to see in a comic book.If vegetables could cure allergies, rice could survive global warming, and fruit could grow easily inside a spacecraft, what would it be like ?I am carrying out research on selective breeding using the geneticresources of plants to control their shape and form, for exampleregarding the nutrition of plant fiber, and to make them grow readilywithout contracting diseases.forgraduatingtheatincludeFreshwater Biology, keywordsCreating new plants through green innovation
