But those for operating power plants andfactories at high temperature (T > 350℃) are still lacking. We will devise dense and highly-oriented arrays ofpiezoelectric nanowires or nanosheets for self-poweredhigh temperature ultrasonic probes, which would be abuilding block of IoT sensor networks.Outlook for students after graduationStudents in our group will learn how to plan researchprojects, fabricate and characterize samples, andanalyze and summarize the datasets for academicpublications. These experiences would be basic skills intheir future, as researchers or engineers in companiesor else.Associate ProfessorSHI JianAssociate ProfessorWATANABE KentaroDepartment of Machinery and RoboticsFunctional Machineryand MechanicsCFRP is used in many fields. Lightweight and high-strength CFRP is used for energy saving andenergy creation, contributing to the realization ofcarbon neutrality by 2050. In addition, we willdevelop sustainable applied research such asseawater desalination and metal recovery fromurban mines, and promote the realization of SDGsand the formation of a recycling-oriented society.高さ2.65cm×幅3cmAlways aware of the strength of materials and theirimpact on the environment. Students will think andmake efforts to solve problems. They will have aglobalization perspective and communication skills.Department of Machinery and RoboticsFunctional Machineryand MechanicsProfessor WatanabeAssociatereceived his Ph.D from the Univ. ofTokyo in 2010. However, the adhesion between the fiber and resin ispoor, the excellent mechanical properties of CFRP cannot bemaximized. Our laboratory makes full use of various surfacemodificationinterfacialtocharacteristics of fibers and aims to increase the strength ofCFRP. We also create new functional materials that are usefulto society, such as seawater desalination and metal recovery, and conduct applied research to enrich people's lives.Watanabe group focuses on dense and highly-oriented arrays ofsemiconductor nanocrystals, such as 1D-like ZnO free-standingnanowire arrays and 2D-like MoS2-based hetero-nanostructures, asmacroscopic materials exhibiting unique nanoscale properties. Weaim to devise them as potential materials of novel sensor devicesand portable power generators, as key components of sensornetworks. We also enabled in-situ electrical / optoelectronic testingof individual nanostructures under nano-mechanical loading basedon SEM-Cathodoluminescence (CL) nanospectroscope, which revealsnanoscale properties and their potential applications.Weight comparison of iron and CFRP plates of the same size: about 89g for iron and about 20g for CFRPtechnologiesimprovetheSteam高さ4.35cm×幅7.5cmInterfacial evaporation by sunlightFunctional composite membraneSeawaterFreshwaterIon ConcentrationNa+ Mg2+ K+ Ca2+Strengthening composite material and creationnew functional material to enrich the futureDevising dense and highly-oriented arrays of semiconductor nanocrystals
